Inbox & Messaging
What it does
The Inbox is a direct messaging channel between you and the KTB Intelligence broker team. Use it to ask questions about specific bonds, request a bond purchase or sale, get help with a calculator result, or flag an issue with your account.
Messages are delivered in real time using WebSockets — you see replies appear instantly without refreshing the page. A badge on the Inbox nav item shows your unread message count.
Threads are automatically created when you submit a bond request from the Bond Ladder Builder. The broker team can claim, reply to, and resolve threads. You can reopen a resolved thread if the issue recurs.
When to use it
- You want to buy or sell a bond and need a broker to execute the trade.
- You have a question about a specific bond's terms, auction results, or settlement.
- The Bond Ladder Builder identified a bond you want but it's not currently available — the broker team can help source it.
- You need to escalate an account issue that the AI Advisor couldn't resolve.
Requesting a secondary market purchase through the broker
You used the Secondary Market Calculator and found that FXD1/2028/5 at 15.90% is attractive. You open the Inbox, describe the bond, face value (KES 500,000), and your target yield, and the broker team responds within the business day with a firm quote and settlement instructions.
Thread lifecycle
| Stage | Who acts | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Open | You | You start a new thread with your message. |
| Unclaimed | Broker team | Thread shows as unclaimed in the broker inbox until a broker picks it up. |
| Claimed | Broker | A broker claims the thread — other brokers see it is being handled. |
| Active | Both | Real-time back-and-forth messaging. |
| Resolved | Either | Thread is marked resolved. You can reopen it if needed. |
Limitations
- The Inbox is a messaging tool — it does not execute trades automatically. All transactions must be confirmed and processed by a licensed broker.
- Messages are delivered in real time only when both parties are online. If the broker is offline, you will see their reply the next time you open the thread.
- There is no file or image attachment support. For bond documents, use the Files feature and reference the filename in your message.
- Response times depend on broker availability — typically within one business day during CBK working hours.
